Initialize

The Initialize option allows the system software to locate the top (positive) limit switches on the SPM axis and optics axis stages. If the NanoScope computer determines that it is unsure of the stage position, it will not allow any functions under the Stage menu (except Initialize) to be selected.

To initialize the stage:

1. Before beginning initialization, verify that the stage is clear of loose items and debris.
2. Select Stage > Initialize. The dialog box offers two options:

3. To begin initialization, click Yes. As the stage begins a series of motorized movements, a System Wait Dialog appears.

The microscope moves:

• The Z-stage to the top of its travel

• The camera optics to the upper extent of their travel
• The XY-stage to the forward-most (negative Y direction) and left-most (negative X direction) limits, then to the center point of the XY axis

4. When the initialize process is complete, the system opens a pop-up dialog asking whether you wish to return the XY stage to its original position:

Click Yes to move the XY stage to its starting point or click No to leave the XY stage in the center position. For safety reasons, the Z stage will remain retracted.

The initialization sequence may be aborted at any time by clicking the Abort button.
