LAF bench in yellow lab Thermo Scientific MSC Advantage 1.8

Product brochure      Manufacturers Manual

The LAF (Laminar Air Flow) bench in the yellow lab is of a different make than the ones in the process lab.

Normally, when you enter the lab at the beginning of a work session, the front glass window should be all the way down, and the LAF bench shut off. See the lower red arrows in the pictures below, the glass front should be aligned to these arrows, there is a little bump in the blue frame of the bench.

When the bench is shut off, only a green dot is shown in the left display area of the front panel.

In order to start the bench:

  1. press the ON button on the front panel, see picture below.
  2. Lift the glass front up to the higher alignement marks, the upper little bumps on the frame.
  3. There will immediately sound a beeping because the air flow is not working. To stop the beeping, carefully align the glass front to the upper marks, it is rather critical, should be within 10 mm.

Please, DO NOT silence the beeping with the rightmost button, the airflow is not working properly until the beeping stops by itself!

  4. When the beeping has stopped with the glass front in the correct upper position, it will take some time for the air flow to stabilize.
  5. This procedure can be followed by the row of small lights in the PERFORMANCE FACTOR area. The lights turn on from right to left, and when the two leftmost lights are on optimum performance is achieved. This is shown in the picture below.
There are also lights to indicate that the fan is working and that the air speed in the front opening is correct.

In order to shut off the LAF-bench:

  1. Push down the glass front all the way down to the lower marks.
  2. When the beeping stops, press the ON button a couple of seconds.
  3. The numeric display area should show only a single dot.

Please note that you CANNOT shut off the LAF bench with the glass front in the UPPER position.
