Simple restart of Nova 200

Sometimes when the pump-down (evacuation) of the chamber has just finished it immediately starts venting. There is nothing to be done from the user interface, both buttons for venting and pumping are inactive (greyed out).

This can be helped by a "small" restart fo the system, only a restart of the control-computer, the right-hand screen.

Sometimes it is neccessary to restart two times, typically if the Motion button in the upper right area is not green and showing a question mark.

Small restart of FEI Nova 200, only restart controlling computer (right screen):

  1. Exit from user interface

  2. Pop up the server window by double-clicking on the blue top-bar, window name "xT microscope server".
    Or click on the FEI microscope icon in the lower right corner of the screen, where active programs usually are.

  3. Click stop button to stop all services

  4. All the green bullets in the lower pane should eventually become black

  5. Klick the exit cross in the upper right corner of the server window

  6. Restart the computer. Please note that you cannot restart if you have not stopped and exited the xT microscope server

  7. Wait for the computer to be restarted

  8. Log on with appropriate user

  9. Wait until Windows has started all standard services, antivirus, firewall, etc.

  10. Double-click on desktop icon for FEI microscope to start server window

  11. Wait until all bullets in upper right area are fully green. The "Motion" bullet usually takes a bit longer time.

  12. Click on "Start" button in "Microscope" area

  13. All bullets in the lower left area should eventually become green, running through red, orange and yellow first.

  14. The user interface should automatically start, login in with the appropriate user.

  15. The system should run normally
To the right is the xT microscope server window shown during the end of start-up. You can barely see one yellow button at the very bottom of the lower left area.
