Stereomicroscope camera on same computer as 1:st micr. camera

How to switch between them

Anders Liljeborg, Erik Holmgren

The stereo microscope in the process lab has a separate camera on its top camera port. It is connected to the same computer as the camera of the first microscope in the process lab.

The software (NIS Elements) can only handle one camera at a time.

Here is how to switch between the cameras.

Use drop down menu Devices - Select HW Configuration...

The software has two hardware configurations, one for the upright microscope and one for the stereomicroscope.

Manual Microscope Upright refers to the ME600 microscope,

Nikon SMZ Manual refers to the stereo microscope.

Below is shown the window to select one or the other hardware configuration.

The NIS Element software version is now 5.30, here is an overview of the GUI when the upright microscope is selected. Most functions are the same as the previous version (5.10). Here the dark theme for the GUI is selected.

There is a sub window Manual Microscope Pad showing the objectives for he microsocpe, you must click on the corresponding one you have manually turned into the lightpath for calibrated measurements to be correct.

Here is an overview of the GUI when the stereo microscope is selected.

The sub window in this case is named SMZ Pad

There is only one objective and buttons for six different zoom settings for the zoom knob on the left side of the stereomicroscope.

If you want to make calibrated measurements in your image, you set the zoom knob to one of the factors and click on the corresponding knob in the Pad window.

There is some mechanical play in the zoom knob, turn it from lower magnifications to higher to get the best calibration.
