Dimension Electrochemistry Hardware
In addition to an EC-capable microscope, EC requires the following hardware components:
The system diagram for the Dimension Icon Electrochemistry Cell with heating is shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1: Dimension Electrochemistry System block diagram
The electrochemistry (EC) cell magnetically attaches to the Dimension Icon EC chuck. The EC electrical connections are made through the EC chuck base and spring terminals on the EC chuck. These spring terminals are connected to the DB15 cable that exits the left side of the chuck. The Dimension Icon EC Chuck incorporates a heating element (ambient to 60°C) with two temperature sensors. One sensor is built into the chuck and is used for controlling the chuck temperature. An external sensor is provided to calibrate the temperature drop from the controlling temperature sensor (A) to the sample. The temperature sensors and chuck heating element are connected to the DB-15 cable that exits the left side of the chuck. The Dimension Icon EC Extension cable connects to the DB-15 chuck connector. In Dimension Icon systems with an acoustic hood, the cable exits the acoustic hood through the left cable clamp and connects to the EC Multiplexer (Mux) Box. The EC Mux Box cables connect to the LakeShore temperature controller for controlling the EC chuck temperature and also a DB9 cable which has the EC cell signals to route to a user supplied potentiostat.
