Sweeping Using the Generic Sweep Command

  1. Access the SCM Tune Generic Sweep mode by clicking the SCM Tune icon in the Workflow Toolbar.

Figure 1: SCM Tune: Generic Sweep Window, Tip Withdrawn

  1. Several control panels display in the SCM Tune window: Sweep, Channel 1, 2, and Graph (see Figure 1). The Graph controls sub-panel parameters are described in Table 1.
Parameter Use with SCM
Sweep Output

Select an SCM parameter to sweep, from:

  • AC Bias Amplitude
  • Bias Frequency
  • Aux Lock-In BW
  • SCM Lock-IN BW
  • SCM Lock-In Phase
  • DC Bias
  • Capacitance Sensor Frequency
NOTE: You may also select Sweep Output by clicking More > AC Bias Amplitude, Bias Frequency, Capacitance Sensor Frequency or SCM Lock-In Phase.
Sweep Width Sets the sweep range.
Sweep Center Sets the midpoint of the sweep.
Sweep Samples Sets the number of data points included in a sweep. Available in Expanded Mode.
Units Volts or Metric. Available in Expanded Mode.
Pause Between Steps Set the amount of time (in µs) between steps in a sweep. Available in Expanded Mode.

Table 1: SCM: Graph control parameters in Sweep Generic Mode

Parameter Description
Integral Gain Controls the amount of integrated error signal used in the feedback calculation.
Proportional Gain Controls the amount of the proportional error signal used in the feedback calculation.
Deflection Setpoint Setpoint for engaging contact mode.
Z Limit Redefines the range of deflection values to change the resolution.
LP Deflection BW Sets the bandwidth of the low pass deflection filter.
LP Friction BW Sets the bandwidth of the low pass filter in the friction channel.
AC Bias Amplitude Amplitude of the AC bias applied to the sample.
Bias Frequency Frequency of the AC bias applied to sample.
SCM Amplitude Limit
SCM Lock-In BW Bandwidth of the auxiliary lock-in (used for capacitance).
SCM Lock-In Phase Phase of the SCM lock-in amplifier with respect to the reference bias frequency.
DC Bias DC bias applied to the sample.
Capacitance Sensor Frequency Frequency of capacitance sensor.
SCM Igain Igain used for closed-loop mode.
SCM Pgain Pgain used for closed-loop mode.
Feedback Setpoint Not used in open loop mode. Selects the dC/dV setpoint in closed-loop mode.
Feedback Limit Limits the bias amplitude in closed-loop mode.

Table 2: SCM: Sweep parameters in Generic Sweep Mode

  1. Select the parameter to sweep in Graph > Sweep Output. You may also select from several Sweep Output choices by clicking More, shown in Figure 1. Adjust Sweep Width, Sweep Samples and the Sweep parameters to desired values.
  2. Adjust Data Type in Channel 1 or 2 panels to display the desired property.
NOTE: Sweeping starts when the Sweep Generic Mode is entered and continues until you exit.
