The Menu Bar

Menu Bar Items

The initial menu bar includes: File, Experiment and Help to begin the process of initializing and opening files in the client window. Once an experiment (workspace) is open, an expanded toolbar, shown in Figure 1, is displayed to run and configure the microscope to scan or process images.

The menu items include:

Item	Description
File	Accesses menu selections for opening, saving and printing files and documents.
Experiment	Accesses menu selections allowing you to select and save experiments.
Microscope	Accesses menu selections to administer commands during data collection.
Ramp	Accesses menu items that control ramp functions.
Scan	Re-starts the scan from the chosen location.
Capture	Accesses menu selections that allow you to capture (save) images.
Stage	Accesses menu selections that control stage movement.
Calibrate	Accesses menu items for calibrating various settings.
Tools	Accesses menu items for selecting various settings.
Help	Accesses menu items for initializing and displaying the help screen, Technical Support contact information, probe purchase information and NanoScope information about your system.

File Menu

Item	Description
New	Creates new Multiple Force Directory or new MIRO file
Open	Opens the following file types Captured data (.) Experiments (.wks) Spm Lab file (.) Multiple Force file (.mca) Auto Program (.apg) Calibration (.) Settings (.bag) MIRO (*.iro) This is the same as clicking the Open icon in The NanoScope Toolbar.
Save	Saves experiment settings. This is the same as clicking the Save Experiment icon in The NanoScope Toolbar.
Save As	Saves experiment settings.
Print Setup	Selects appropriate printer driver for offline images.
Print Preview	Displays a print preview page of an offline image.
Print	Prints an annotated offline image
Export	Realtime: Exports a jpeg file of the image windows Offline: Exports ASCII scan data (see ASCII Export), graphic (as jpeg, bmp, 8-bit color tiff, 8-bit gray-scale tiff or 16-bit gray-scale tiff) or View (all image windows as jpeg)
Exit	Exits NanoScope software

Experiment Menu

Item	Description
Select Experiment	Opens The Select Experiment Window
Open Experiment	Opens a saved experiment (*.wks)
Save Experiment	Saves the experiment (*.wks). NOTE: You can not use this command to overwrite factory-defined experiments.
Save Experiment As	Saves the experiment (*.wks) and gives it a title.
Create New Experiment	This command allows you to create an experiment by selecting features from a list, shown in Figure 4.
Configure Experiment	This command allows you to add functions to The Workflow Toolbar and allows you to Show All parameters .See The Configure Experiment window in Scan and Ramp Parameter Lists

Microscope Menu

Item	Description
Cantilever Tune	Opens the Cantilever Tune window, allowing determination of the cantilever resonant frequency.
Engage	Engages the probe with the sample surface. This is the same as clicking the Engage icon in The Workflow Toolbar
False Engage	Scans without tracking the sample surface.
Withdraw	Withdraws the probe from the sample surface.
Short Withdraw	Performs a Short Withdraw. Available with the Heater/Cooler Refer to Dimension Heater/CoolerBruker p/n 013-441-000 for details.
Engage Settings	Opens the Engage Parameters panel. Refer to Tapping Engage for details.
Generic Sweep	Opens the Generic Sweep window. Refer to Optimize the image for details.
Generic Lockin	Opens the Generic Lock-In window. Refer to NanoScope V Controller Lock-In for details.
Set Surface Potential Phase	Sets the phase in Surface Potential measurements.
Step Motor	Allows you to withdraw or manually control the vertical position of the probe tip. Refer to Step Motor for details.

Scan Menu

Item	Description
Autoset Image Data Scale	Autoscales the scan data. Refer to AutoScale for details.
Frame Up	Restarts the Realtime scan at the bottom of the frame. This is the same as clicking the Frame Up icon in The NanoScope Toolbar
Frame Down	Restarts the Realtime scan at the top of the frame. This is the same as clicking the Frame Down icon in The NanoScope Toolbar
Frame Reverse	Reverses the vertical scan direction from the existing location. This is the same as clicking the Frame Reverse icon in The NanoScope Toolbar
Skip to Line	Restarts the scan at a user-specified line. This is the same as clicking the Skip to Line icon in The NanoScope Toolbar
Single	Restarts the scan from the existing probe tip position and finishes the frame plus one complete frame for each increment above 1 of the Scan Single Frame Number. This is the same as clicking the Single icon (see Tip Save) in The NanoScope Toolbar
Continuous	Restarts continuous scanning from the existing probe tip position. This is the same as clicking the Continuous icon (see Tip Save) in The NanoScope Toolbar
Pause	Stops scanning while keeping the probe tip in contact with the sample. This is the same as clicking the Pause icon (see Tip Save) in The NanoScope Toolbar

Capture Menu

Item	Description
Capture	The Capture command directs the software to save the next complete,uninterrupted frame to a file. This is the same as clicking the Capture icon in The NanoScope Toolbar
Capture Now	Immediately saves the current uninterrupted image before the frame is complete. This is the same as clicking the Capture Now icon in The NanoScope Toolbar
Capture Last	Saves the last complete frame prior to the current frame. This is the same as clicking the Capture Last icon in The NanoScope Toolbar
Capture Continuous	Continuously saves every frame until Withdraw or Abort Capture is selected. This is the same as clicking the Capture Continuous icon in The NanoScope Toolbar
Capture Withdraw	Captures the last frame and withdraws.
Abort Capture	The Abort Capture command stops the capture process. This is the same as clicking the Abort Capture icon in The NanoScope Toolbar
Capture Filename	Specifies the capture directory. This is the same as clicking the Select Capture Directory icon in The NanoScope Toolbar
Capture Calibration	Opens the Capture Calibration window.
High Speed Data Capture	Opens the High Speed Data Capturewindow. This is the same as clicking the High Speed Data Capture icon in The NanoScope Toolbar

Tools Menu

Item	Description
Select Microscope	Opens the Microscope Select window, allowing you to configure your microscope. Refer to Starting NanoScope Software for details.
Select Scanner	Opens the Select Scanner window. Refer to Starting NanoScope Software for details.
I2C	Allows you to synchronize scanner calibration parameters. Refer to I2C for details.
Reset Controller	Resets the NanoScope V controller.
Run Script	Loads and runs a NanoScript file.
Probe Database	Allows you to edit the probe database.
Recipes	Opens a new recipe file. Refer to Recipes for details.
Config AutoScale	Configures the AutoScale function. Refer to AutoScale for details.
Filter Curves	Opens a window that allows you to specify filter parameters to apply to selected force curves.
Review Curves	Opens a window that allows you to review selected force curves.
Options	Setting of multiple configuration options.

Help Menu

Item	Description
NanoScope Help	Opens NanoScope Help in a browser window. This is the same as clicking the Help icon in The NanoScope Toolbar
Technical Support	Opens a web page with Bruker technical support contact information.
Buy Probes	Opens the Bruker probes web page.
About NanoScope	Opens a window that shows what version of NanoScope software you are running as well as the installed features.
